Today's Makeup Look

Well, well well, this is new! I thought today I would invest some time to create a more fun and practical post. I was only running errands today and organising some freelance work I have coming up so I wasn't doing this look for anything in particular. I really enjoyed putting this together from the makeup to taking the photos! I think next time if I am daring enough I will film a tutorial and I think with that I will be more motivated to also film my makeup collection and storage.

Create this look:

This look is suitable for most occasions depending on your comfort zone. For myself I do enjoy a subtle smokey eye during the day and adding more intensity to smoke it out more for a night look. For this look I will be mentioning everything listed above, of course if you want to use any other products of your own please do so — this is just a guide to the steps I did and used to create my look.

For most eye looks that contain dark shadows it is ideal to start with your eye makeup first so you can clean up any fallout before doing your base. Start with a moisturised face and lips so that they are prepped before you begin your eye makeup. Apply NARS eyeshadow base primer to your eye lids and lower lash line and let it settle for a few seconds before adding the By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Misty Rock to your outer V, inner corner stopping a quarter in and the lower lash line stopping half way. Do one eye at a time as these Ombre Blackstars set pretty quickly. Blend out lightly with a clean fluffy eye brush (Chantecaille Perfect Sweep brush) to create a soft edge.

Then add the Ombre Blackstar in Ombre Mecure to the centre of your eye lids and lower lash line meeting half way to the middle again. With the Stila Eyes Are The Window palette in 'Mind' you want to get the shade 'understanding' (mauve brown) to blend out the crease creating a transition shade. Then highlighting the brow bone with shade 'brilliance' (off creamy white). To start adding definition to the look you want to get shade 'creativity' (cool toned dark brown) and slowly build up intensity starting at the lash line of your outer V and blending it out into a feline triangle/wing — make the V shape inline with an angle to the tail of your brows.

Adding some more of 'creativity' you want to add an ever so slightly amount towards your inner corner to define the eyes and creating a rounded shape to your eyes. You will notice at this point your Ombre Blackstar will need building up again as it would have been blending out quite a bit so add another layer to build up the colour on the same areas you did previously. Then blend it out again but this time with shade 'wit' (caramel soft brown). To give your eyes an even more rounded look and making it pop use the Clinique Cheek Palette and with the lightest shade in the palette place a bit of it with your finger pressing it on lightly to the centre of your eyelids and to brighten your inner corners.

At this point if you're happy with the look and have blended out all harsh lines you want to move onto your base. Using Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer place it all over your face followed by a little bit of The Body Shop InstaBlur primer to your t-zone to help with oil control and keeping your foundation at bay. Let that settle in for a few seconds then with one pump of Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation blend all over starting in the centre of your face and working outwards with the Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush. Then highlight the centre, under eyes and high points of your face with Clarins Instant Concealer (which is a few shades lighter) to brighten up your complexion followed by Chanel Perfection Concealer to conceal any blemishes and spots.

To set everything and keep it in place you want to use pressing motions to pat on NARS Pressed Powder with the Hakuhodo J5543 brush. With whatever is left on your Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush use it to clean out the edges of your eye makeup to give it a crisp look. Moving onto the brows fill them out as you would using the MAC Veluxe Brow Pencil giving a soft natural look (if you prefer a more bolder brow then intensify the brows more — however for this look I went with a soft brow). Going back to the eyes use Kat Von D Tattoo Liner to liner your eyes creating a thick winged line. Then apply Smashbox Layer Lash Primer to prime your lashes, let it dry for a few seconds followed by coating your lashes with the Chanel Le Volume Mascara (curl your lashes prior)!.

To contour and bronze the face (where the sun naturally hits your face — temples, hollows of cheeks, jawline & nose making sure you blend down to your neck) use Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow - highlight the high points of your face with the highlight shade - I also paired the Clinique Cheek Palette mixed together to add a bit more of a glow. For blush apply it to the apples of your cheeks and swiping it upwards to your hair line (you don't want to go any lower than where you nose ends as that will droop your face a lot) - I noticed the camera didn't pick up the blush shade much but it is on there. Lastly line and fill in your lips with MAC Lip Pencil in Whirl followed by applying MAC Lipstick in Mehr (thanks Tenneil for the recommendation)! Completing the entire look.

I really hope you enjoyed this post and if you would like to see more tutorials please comment below so I know to work on some more. I of course think it would be more informative and easier if I filmed a tutorial but I do want to invest in a better camera lens as the one I am using isn't top notch for my Nikon D5000 DSLR. I will trial a video and see if its worthy to upload but do let me know if you would prefer that format (since I do realise reading a step by step tutorial isn't as interesting)!. Nonetheless I hope you still enjoyed this and I had SO much fun creating this look for the blog. I look forward to reading your feedback!

  2. OMG GIRL. I read this blog post last night before I went to bed and I could not get over how STUNNING it was! I needed sleep, but I knew first thing I needed to do when I got up was comment to say how gorgeous you look and how amazing your skills are! I knew straight away that you were wearing Mehr (you're totally welcome for the recommendation! I wanted to buy it for you for your birthday, but I got you something else instead, hehehehe) and now I'm contemplating whether I need Whirl Lip Pencil in my life! Argh, damn you! Haha. I just want ALL the things.

If you did YouTube videos, that would actually be the BEST thing ever! I would watch your makeup collection video over and over again and I could definitely learn so much watching you do tutorials! Get ready with me videos are some of my favourites to watch, so eventually I want to start doing those, but they also kind of make me nervous, especially if I were to apply winged eyeliner on camera! I think tutorials definitely work better as videos because you can actually see what you're doing, whereas just following instructions is a little more tricky to follow!

Absolutely love how much you've been blogging lately, hun. Makes me so happy!

  5. Yours eyes look absolutely gorgeous here! I've been wanting to try the Ombre Blackstars for such a long time. NARS Douceur is one of my favourite blushes - it's a beautiful shade.

The By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Misty Rock, Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush and Clarins Instant Concealer are all very high on my wishlist. They seem to never have the concealer in stock in shade 1 though :c
