Today's Makeup Look #2

For today's look it will be mainly featuring Bobbi Brown products. I will be showing you how to master a winged eyeliner with a liquid liner and gel liner as well as pairing it with a nude to red lip. I received such positive feedback on my first "Today's Makeup Look" I decided to work on a second one! I must admit it is so much fun doing these kinds of posts I really wish I had started doing it a lot earlier. Nonetheless I have actually invested in a new DSLR camera lens for my camera (which I am waiting for its arrival) and yes that means I will be trialling out some videos for tutorials. I definitely agree and know it is a lot easier to watch rather than read however I really needed to get a new lens for this purpose.

I received some great advice from my photographer at my previous photo shoot advising me of an affordable camera lens for my blogging and filming purposes. I am so happy and excited to play around with it once it arrives! I opted for the Nikon 50ml 1.8F lens which wasn't at all too expensive! I purchased it for around $250 AUD. My photographer friend also told me this is the perfect lens to use for taking photos of makeup as well as filming since it is so tiny and really portable as well! The quality is just the perfect amount I need for this! Definitely stay tuned and I will update when I will be filming! I really hope you enjoy it and yes I am extremely nervous!

Onto today's look! I will be heading off the the Noodle Markets located in the city/Northbridge tonight with my boyfriend so I decided this will be a perfect opportunity to work on my second tutorial. I wanted it to suit the theme of the Noodle Market as it is mainly Asian food. What better than a perfect winged liner paired with a nude or red lip, yes? (I ended up going with the nude lippy as I was eating so didn't want to maintain the red lippy all night hehe!)

Create this look:

As always start off with a moisturised face, eyes and lips so they are prepped ready for makeup application. Again you want to start with your eye makeup as we are doing another semi dark eye look. Apply your primer — for today's look I used a sample of MAC Strobe Cream to give a nice dewy glow under the foundation while I let it settle in I also primed the eyelids with NARS Pro Prime. I decided to shop my makeup stash and wanted to use mostly Bobbi Brown, I wanted to dedicate this look based around it. I of course didn't use everything Bobbi Brown so listed above are the other items I used to create this look.

Using the Bobbi Brown Smokey Cool Eye Palette I started with shade 'truffle' blended throughout the crease acting as a transition shade using the Hakuhodo J5522. Then using 'ivory' to highlight my brow bone followed by 'graphite' in the outer V blending it down towards the outer lash line using the MAC 275 Brush. Going back to the shade 'truffle' to blend out the crease of any harsh lines. Using your index finger or ring finger pat shade 'platinum' into the centre of the eyelids to the tear duct pressing it on and doing light patting motions — which you will find will apply the shade better to the eyelids giving it a rounded shine look. To deepen the look place 'smokey grey' on the outer V where you first placed 'graphite' just focusing mainly on the outer corners of the V shape shading it in so it blends evenly and adding the same shade on the lower outer lash line to connect and bring the look together.

For each eye I did the left eye with the Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner to create the winged eyeliner and for the same look on the right eye using the Bobbi Brown Ink Liner. I mainly did two different types of liner looks to show how both products work on my eyes. Basically in the end they look very similar but in terms of which one is easier I would have to say the quickest application for me was doing the 'gel eyeliner' using the precision of the MAC 266 brush. I found I had more control with product whereas the 'ink liner' didn't distribute as much product to create that crisp flick. Nonetheless both liners were lovely on both eyes and when you look at them both you can't really tell there are two different types of formulas. I also tight lined the upper water line with the Bobbi Brown Dual Ended Eyeliner in Chocolate to give a more fuller look to the lashes. Curl the eyelashes using Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers and apply a generous amount of Bobbi Brown Dual Ended Mascara to both upper and lower lashes.

Now as you know I am in the midst of getting a new camera lens so please bare with the photos I have for now. They don't capture the best quality of the makeup but I tried my best relying mostly on good day light lighting.

Moving onto the base now that your primer has settled nicely into they skin I wanted to also try the sample of MAC Mineralize Foundation which I applied only one layer of to give a nice supple natural look buffing it in with the Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush. With any blemishes, spots and under eyes I used the MAC Pro-long wear concealer. I find on days where I want to keep my skin hydrated I like setting my foundation and concealer using the By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Powder with the Hakuhodo J505 pressing it onto the skin so it doesn't disturb any movement of the concealer.

Filling in the eyebrows with Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil following your natural shape. To contour and bronze using the NARS Virtual Domination Palette as well as the Hakuhodo J5521 for this whole palette — using 'laguna' to sculpt the face where the sun naturally hits and highlight the high points of your face with 'miss liberty'. A blush that ties in nicely with the entire look whether going for a bold or nude lipstick I used 'sex fantasy' to give a bit of flush to the cheeks.

I just love the formula of Bobbi Brown lipsticks they're so pigmented, smooth and sit beautifully on the lips. For the nude shade I used a matte lipstick in '21 warm nude', it isn't drying on the lips (especially if you prep your lips prior). It also gives my lips a perfect nude shade without clashing with my skin tone as there are undertones of brown and peach to the nude. For the red shade I used the oh so beautiful bright lipstick in '35 blazing red'. It gives a strong rich orange red shade to the lips again not clashing with my skin tone as the orange undertones of the red flows nicely with my yellow skin tone making it brighten my complexion. To refresh the face and set everything I like to spritz some Mario Badescu Facial Spray all over my face making the skin supple and hydrated.

What do you think of this overall look? Do you like the nude lips or are you more of a bold red lip kind of gal? Personally for me on a night out I love a good bold red lip and for those days where I know I'll be eating out I think a nude makes more sense — plus it's just as pretty! Don't mind my camera angles, I'm not one to do many selfies but I do hope you found this post enjoyable! Perhaps for my next "Today's Makeup Look" post I will do a more colourful eye look! Which are my favourite to do! I want to start off quite neutral and easy then slowly build up to more complex looks as I make more tutorials.

  1. You created a gorgeous look! Seriously talented! Looking forward to seeing you film xx

  2. I love this look a lot! And omg you have super flawless skin!!! :) You said the pictures don't capture the best quality of your makeup but I already think these pictures are quite amazing! I used to use bobbi brown gel eyeliner but it always smudges by the end of the day as I have super greasy eyelids. Can't wait to watch your video - which is something that I know I would never have the guts to do so myself. Hope you are having a great day! xx

  3. Just wanted to drop in and let you know I'm LOVING your latest blog posts. You are so stunning and talented! <3

  4. Yay I'm glad we're going to be seeing more of your face! Your skin is flawless! I'll be waiting eagerly for your upcoming videos :)
Ahhh...my love with slick eyeliners started out with the Bobbi Brown gel liners! I had the little set that had the black gel liner, the sepia ink one and the mini brush in the pouch. They're so great for beginners wanting to learn but since moving onto liquid liners, I just can't go back!
I don't know why but I rarely reach for cool-toned smokey eyeshadows. I love the nude on you!

  5. i love this post! and i can't wait for you to get your lens and start doing videos!! i don't know if i would end up branching out into the youtube world but i love that you and tenneil are and i can't wait to see lots of videos from both of you!

i'm obesessed with super glitter eyeshadows and that silver bobbi brown one looks incredible in that first close up. i went into mecca last weekend after UD launched and swatched the moon dust shadows and was like OH MY GOD I NEED THESE, haha. i haven't picked up any yet but i'm going to have to. also i have blazing red by bobbi brown too and it's gorgeous! not sure if there's one in perth but there's an estee lauder corporate store thing in sydney (i think american's call them CCOs) where they have heaps of makeup from the brands under estee lauder cheaper than retail and i picked it up there and it's the most gorgeous orange-red colour and i love the formula too! it's my first bobbi brown lipstick but i'm really impressed by it.
