Alpha-H Protection Plus Daily SPF50+ Review

I haven't noticed many people talking about this particular sunscreen by Alpha-H. I guess its one of those underrated products - which in most cases I tend to gravitate to since not all hypes are always fitting for me. I like to find my own products that work for me, since as I always mention everyone's skin is different. There's so many amazing things I could say about this sunscreen it actually ticks all the boxes you can possibly imagine. I've been using the Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF30+ for quite a few years now and that has been my holy grail sunscreen but then I stumbled upon this beauty. I'm always up for trying new and better things especially if I end up loving it more than what I was using prior.

For a sunscreen the main things I look for is of course the SPF factor, how it blends and feels on my face, does it leave a white cast, does it contain added benefits such as UVA & UVB as well as fruit/plants extracts, does it wear nicely with my makeup during the day and so much more. This is well and truly a given now as I don't often do a post dedicated to one product. I think when a review is needed it is to say and show how amazing a product is and that it is well and truly worth the time to review.

I haven't had this sunscreen all too long, I bought it just over a week ago and have been using it since. I don't think it takes too long to figure out if a sunscreen works well for you since all the theories I have mention before about what I look for in a perfect sunscreen is easy to determine.

On first application the Alpha-H Protection Plus Daily SPF50+ I noticed the colour of the formula is a beige shade which I found intriguing as not many sunscreens come off that way so of course automatically you can tell there wouldn't be any white casting. It blends out so smoothly which I find it feels just like a velvet primer and sits on your skin with a matte finish but not feeling drying at all. You could even wear this on its own since there is the beige tint to it which smooths and evens out your skin so naturally.

I'll list below dot points of what this sunscreen contains as well as the packaging.

  • Skin colour shade (beige)
  •  Non-greasy
  • Works for all skin types
  • Non-whitening
  • Easy to blend
  • Quickly absorbs into the skin
  • Smooth and mattifying
  • A great base for your makeup
  • Light weight with a velvet mousse like texture
  • Skin feels hydrated
  • Broad spectrum - SPF50+
  • Contains UVA/UVB - premature ageing and burning.
  • Pomegranate seed oil - antioxidants and anti-inflammatory.
  • French Martime Pine Bark - Pycnogenol helps brighten complexion, smooth fine lines, diminish dark spots and hyperpigmentation.
  • Mango seed butter - soothes, nourishes and quenches skin.

  • 50ml
  • RRP $60 AUD
  • Sleek and smooth packaging
  • Squeeze tube with a pump and lid
  • Light weight packaging/easy to travel
  • Australian made and owned

Now don't get me wrong, the Mecca sunscreen has a lot of similar added benefits but in terms of texture and application it doesn't compare to the Alpha-H. Also given that the Alpha-H contains SPF50+ as opposed to Mecca's SPF30+. You only need a pea size as a little goes a long way with this product. In terms of size the Mecca sunscreen contains 100ml for $38 AUD and the Alpha-H contains 50ml for $60 AUD which is a significant difference — but as I like to say quality over quantity! If money isn't an issue for you and you are happy to part $60 AUD for this beauty without being disappointed I think you will be fine. In most cases people want the best of the best regardless of price and others look for quality, quantity and price all together which isn't always in favour.

Basically you could say this is the all time perfect sunscreen especially if you live in a climate with strong UV rays in which the SPF50+ will come in handy (in Australia)!. I will definitely repurchase this although I still do enjoy using my Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face. I think on days where I am wearing makeup I will gravitate to the Alpha-H and on days where I am wearing minimal makeup my Mecca sunscreen will work just fine. I highly recommend both but if you're looking for that "perfect" sunscreen definitely give Alpha-H a try. Since using their products they have not disappointed me at all - I am in love with their range especially the Liquid Gold, it is superb!

Have you tried this sunscreen? If so, please tell me your thoughts on it too!

* You can also purchase Alpha-H from Luxola they offer amazing service and fast shipping. I've been shopping with Luxola for quite a few months now and each experience has been wonderful. I highly recommend it!

  1. Love this sunscreen. You are right about it all! I will say one thing about it though, the pump is rubbish. I got halfway thru and it stops dispensing so I now unscrew it to get product out. I am almost finished now and have been umming about the mecca to save face, I think I'll try it now you say you love it. It's coming into autumn winter now so I prbably don't need 50+ but I will most definitely be coming back to this one come summertime again :-) best high factor sunscreen I have ever tried.

  3. This sounds divine! Bookmarking this for when I run out of my sunscreen!
Even though it's non-whitening, how does it fare with flash photography?

  4. This sounds amazing! Where do you get Alpha H in Australia? When I was living in Sydney, I couldn't find it anywhere so I ended up getting it from BeautyBay.com. This is definitely on my to try list!

  5. this sunscreen sounds lovely, although to be honest it took me a little bit before i fully came around to the idea of it being a skincare step just like any other that's just as deserving of a splurge. but once i tried the mecca one i could see what the difference was between that and the neutrogena one i had been using before. although i've got a 50+ la roche-posay one as well as the mecca one that i'll be using for a while but i will keep this one in mind for the future.

tbh i don't feel like i need SPF 50 day to day since i work in an office but it's important to have one handy for if i'm going to be doing stuff outdoors on a weekend (nothing too "outdoorsy" or rugged of course, i'm thinking picnics that involve sitting and eating, haha.)

  6. This sunscreen sounds so beautiful by the way you describe it and obviously, I really trust your opinions on products actually working in the industry, rather than just some blogger who doesn't really know much and probably got sent the product for free! It's so easy to get caught up in blogger hype and I'll admit I do all the time and have discovered some amazing products, but it's important to do your own research and find what you like for yourself too. I discovered the Chanel mascara on my own, which I love (bloggers who say high end mascara isn't worth it are LYING!) and even the Mecca To Save Face Sunscreen, I started using on my own. I was actually thinking of trying something else, but you convinced me to repurchase it and I still love it so much!

Having said that though, I'm definitely intrigued by this Alpha-H sunscreen as the velvet mousse texture sounds so luxurious and it's SPF 50+ too. I don't know if I need that though as I barely spend any time outside, haha. I'm so glad you're loving Liquid Gold too. It really does transform the skin and so amazing for lazy skincare days!

  7. I haven't tried it with flash photography as yet as usually that's used at night time and when I go out and do my makeup during the night I don't wear SPF. I probably wouldn't recommend using it if you know there will be flash photography where you're going. With the non-whitening I mean as in some sunscreens have that white mask like look to them when you blend it into your skin and you can see the white tint to them which makes a mask on your face and isn't flattering when it sits on your skin too. But yes in terms of flash photography don't use SPF if you tend to get a white face with the flash. It's so lovely during the day this sunscreen - def worth the investment! xx (so sorry for the late reply!)

  10. Yes, sunscreen is such an important part of your regime. It is basically what saves your face otherwise the other products you use is pointless. Especially since the sun UV here in Aus is just so high. SPF 50+ is really good during summer even if you're indoors most of the time because as soon as you step outside the sun can do damage within seconds. I love la roche posay I use to use their sunscreen a few years back - I think they're great! I really want to try the spray on body sunscreen that Tenneil has, it is perfect since I do lack in body sunscreen - something I need to change! I love a good sunscreen that has extra ingredients within it - makes it so much better xx

  11. Aw thank you so much hun. That's really lovely of you to say and it means a lot to me. I am always happy to express my opinions and knowing someone like you appreciate and trusts it makes me love my job even more :)

Yeah so many bloggers don't know anything when they talk about a product especially when its just to say "this is great go buy it" mainly because it was sent to them. Or that they don't really know what else to say about it. It takes so much time to review a product and actually put relevant info in the post to make sure it helps readers understand its use. I find so many "famous" bloggers talk rubbish about a product and in most cases what they state isn't even true. It's always quite repetitive. Which is a shame.

Yeah hypes aren't good to go by unless you've tried it yourself which is why I love finding my own products that work well for me and in most cases those are products that are hyped about but at least I know it works well for me and that I love it. That's why it's good to try samples even though they enable you to want to buy more once you've tried it hehe. I'm so glad girl! YES that Chanel mascara is god sent you did well!! And it is something I love on my lashes thanks to you! Don't worry girl you got it when it comes to finding things you like too, you know you have amazing taste and you have your own unique style that people like I love! ;) I actually really think you will love this alpha h sunscreen, like no kidding you will but the price might put you off as it does for me - I actually got this on an amazing sale and it came with a LE set. Which is why I have it - I was trying out a set so I can see how the products work for me and so far WOW this brand is TOO GOOD! Oh girl as soon as I have a bad skin day ie. a pimple I whip out liquid gold and the next morning its gone BAM! I am seriously IN LOVE!!!! *heart eyes* hehe
