Let's Catch Up! #6

Another year has gone by and here we are ringing in another new year. The month of December has been a busy and eventful month for me. I have been a little M.I.A from my blog and more active on social media, but that's usually the case for me during this time of the year. The holiday season is by far my favourite time of the year, it's a time for relaxation and spending time with loved ones. The festive season brings so much joy and I love the feeling of all the excitement and lead up to Christmas and the new year.

Good news, I can finally started using my MiGoals 2017 diary! Feels great to finally crack it open! Also, I've been going to the gym since mid November, I go every second day (Mon, Wed, Fri and Sun) for an hour and half each session and I have been feeling on top of the world. It makes SUCH a difference, letting out endorphins and just getting toned, stronger and fitter — there's actually no better feeling. The Mr and I signed up for a membership and the great thing is that his friend owns a gym so we got a great price for it, so I guess you could say that definitely motivates me more (and thanks to the Mr for always encouraging me). Also, it is 24/7 access so there is literally no excuse. I hope know I will continue this routine and get to my desired goal and beyond.

This coming Wednesday the Mr has booked for us to travel down to Rottnest Island, I am so excited for a day of bike riding, exploring and chillin' with the quokkas. Believe it or not, I have NEVER been there before. I have lived my whole life in Perth and never been, wow. But, I am so happy to finally visit. Mainly excited to take selfies with the quokkas!

One of my favourite moments during December was going to Kings Park a few hours before sunset on Christmas Day and having a picnic with the Mr. It was so nice to go out and lay down a picnic rug with lots of food and chat away our inner thoughts and feelings. That same night we took my niece to go see some pretty amazing Christmas lights. This year an entire street in Perth had Christmas lights on every house. It was pretty spectacular and so beautiful to walk up and down the street to see the great efforts they put into their displays.

MY TOP 10 MOST LOVED ITEMS IN December

  1. Filling my empty Diptyque candle jar with fresh flowers gifted from my sister on Christmas Day. There's something so satisfying and mesmerising about flowers, they just make me so bloody happy. I wish they didn't cost so much, I would most definitely buy a bouquet every single day!

  2. I received so many lovely Christmas gifts from the PR and brand companies I've worked with this year. A few I've been in awe with is *Nuxe Prodigieuse that came with many other gifts from the team at Cosmetiques de France. It is packaged in a limited edition bottle that features a pretty French girl. I love using this dry oil all over my body, especially around the areas I've been sun burnt. I've been using this for years, so it's so lovely to have another backup when my current one runs out!

  3. I also received this stunning *Cocolux Candle housed in a gold metal jar from the team at Active Skin. The scent is Frankincense and Myrrh. Reminiscent of a day spa on a tropical island on a nice summers day. I can just imagine once this candle finishes I will repurpose the gold metal jar and use it as a vase for more flowers!

  4. I did a Glossier order last month and it arrived during December, the anticipation of waiting for the two packages to arrive was horrid! There was a few stand outs from my order, starting with the Generation G Lipstick in Leo. The packaging of their lipsticks has been updated and it is now a more opaque white exterior and seems to be shorter and stubbier in size. I really like this new change, just a slight difference makes the overall product look so much better. The shade Leo is beautiful, I love the brown tones to it (obviously, that shade was calling for me) and how it applies on the lips as a sheer matte consistency but can build up the colour nicely. It also feels very pillow-y soft on the lips.

  5. I've had the Glossier Haloscope in Quartz on my wish list since I ever started a Glossier wish list. It was always out of stock each time I made an order and of course it was lucky order #3 that got the jackpot. Now that I own all Haloscopes I think this one is my most favourite, I just love the shade — it's so dreamy. At first I wasn't sure about the Haloscopes, mainly because of the amount you receive in the twist up tube, seems too little for the price you're paying. But, the product itself is very well worth it.

Plus, I compared it to my other illuminators that are cream form and housed in a jar and they work out to be the same amount of grams as the Haloscope. I think because the Haloscope is packaged in a twist up tube you just automatically assume there's more product in it. Other than that this is top notch and I can't stop wearing it. I love all the other Haloscopes, but Quartz was well worth the wait. (How many times did I say Haloscope?)

  6. This time I wanted to finally venture out into the world of Glossier skincare, of course I can only order so many items as you know, no money, so I decided to start off with the Super Bounce Serum. I have so many things I want to add to my Glossier collection, you could say I basically want their entire range. I've been using this serum every day and every night. I fricken love this and have already used a third of the bottle, sigh!

So, you can bet your bottom dollar I have the The Super Pack on my next order, yep I am biting the bullet and going for gold. I NEED all serums in my life (maybe not so much the Super Glow, as that one doesn't excite me as much since I own SO many serums that have the same ingredients — Vitamin C). I am really keen on trying the Super Pure and getting a back up of Super Bounce.

  7. I always visit the Tom Ford counter this time of the year to view their Lips and Boys range. I couldn't help but pick up the shade Ben as soon as I swatched it — a plummy brown creamy matte, it makes the perfect holiday shade. A few other shades I was close to picking up was Evan and Christopher, but I did pretty well and refrained myself.

  8. One of the beautiful Christmas gifts the Mr surprised me was my most desired and dream to own Tom Ford Private Blend Perfume in Café Rose. This has been my most adored scent from the Private range back when I worked for Tom Ford. I have a lot of vials of this scent, but I NEVER thought I would own an actual fricken bottle of it! I honestly was speechless and kind of feel reluctant to use it because it is THAT beautiful.

  9. I've been such a cheap b*tch and have never repurchased my favourite Chanel Le Volume Mascara. I've tried to opt for other alternatives and of course nothing beats this mascara for me. I've just never gotten around to picking a new tube up. The Mr bought this as part of my Christmas gift. I started using this straight away and I am so happy to have a new tube of it. The old mascara tube I had was actually still going strong, though it was DEFINITELY time to get rid of it, it still made my lashes amazing!

  10. This is the newest addition to my recent purchases, the Diptyque Nourishing Lip Balm. I went to Mecca the other day to pick up the Malin + Goetz deodorant, because I wanted to try a new "natural" based deodorant without any nasties. I had been using the Lavanila deodorant for quite a while now and as it isn't easy to get my hands on since I don't have a Sephora near me I wanted to give this one a go, and I really like it.

Anyway, side tracking here, back to the Diptyque lip balm! I decided to try out some Diptyque skincare so I got some samples that I am yet to try (I have my eyes on the new Infused Face Oil), I also tried out the lip balm while I was in store as the girls were saying it literally was released that day and they just brought out the tester for it. Oh my, once I tried it, purchased my deodorant and left the store, I walked back in 5 minutes later to purchase the lip balm.

I couldn't stop thinking about it, even the Mr said my lips were so dry that morning and after I applied the lip balm it made my lips so plumped and hydrated. It stays on the lips so long but feels so light weight and soft. It is seriously the best lip balm I've tried as of late, and not too bad for the pricing ($30 AUD). I've always thought of buying the By Terry Baume De Rose but $81 AUD for it? No thanks. I've tried a sample I received in my Beauty Loop Box a while back and it wasn't anything that memorable. I highly recommend this Diptyque Lip Balm, it is fast becoming my favourite and I've tried basically every lip balm out there.

What have you been loving during the month of December? Wishing everyone a safe and prosperous New Year — 2017!

Asian Beauty — with Beautyworks Cosmetica

I've tried Asian beauty products here and there throughout the years but it hasn't always been a staple within my collection mainly because I don't have much access to it compared to western beauty nor do I know what products to try. From what I have tried in the past I've really enjoyed using Asian beauty, I find it really caters well to me not just because I am Asian, but because the ingredients and formula are well made. It's been known for Asian cosmetics and skincare brands to be of one of the highest quality, the Japanese and Koreans sure know their beauty. They're always in advanced with technology and coming out with the latest and greatest. You can see many western brands replicating what the Asian market releases, things such as the "cushion foundations and BB creams", etc.

Beautyworks Cosmetica is the new go-to for the latest, innovative and trendiest brands within the Asian beauty market. Their aesthetic is definitely up my alley, from their website, social media, the layout of their company as well as the finer details of their packaging (look at that peach box, it is to die for). They stock numerous brands, a few I've tried before and love and a few I've been wanting to try, from 3CE, Banila Co, Etude House, CLIO, Pony Effect, Tony Moly and so much more. You just know you're getting great quality with these high end brands on board.

I find Beautyworks Cosmetica to be a lot different from any other Asian beauty company out there, they seem to be more alert to what the latest trends are, unlike other Asian beauty companies who seem a bit out of date. It makes it more exciting and enjoyable to discover what they have to offer with their fun and cheerful nature to their customer service. I highly recommend them if you are looking into trying out new brands.

Two stand out products I have been testing out is the *CLIO Kill Cover Liquid Founwear Foundation Cushion in the shade #4 Ginger and *VDL Lumilayer Primer. I've been testing out both products for almost a month now and my first impressions were definitely positive and that they are going to become a favourite.

*CLIO Kill Cover Founwear Cushion in #4 Ginger —

This is such a unique concept, I've been wanting to try cushion foundations since it launched everywhere. It really is a clever idea to put a liquid foundation within a cushion, it makes for easy travelling, handbag friendly for touch ups and helps distribute the perfect amount of product. It feels really light weight on the skin but provides full coverage all while being very buildable. I find I don't need to wear a concealer when I use this foundation. It gives an overall satin matte finish so you don't need to powder. It can feel a little drying on my skin if I don't pair it with an illuminating primer (this is where the VDL Lumilayer Primer comes in).

I've tried using brushes or my fingers however I've found using a sponge works a lot better and gives a more flawless, even and less streaky effect. The foundation sponge puff it comes with is actually really great! It has a velvety smooth feel to it which picks up the foundation perfectly and applies it nicely onto the skin, with patting and buffing motions.

Throughout the day it continues to wear nicely on the skin, as the oils on the face builds up it creates a nice glow within your complexion. The shade match is perfect for my NC25 skin, it has a good amount of yellow undertones. Paula from Beautyworks Cosmetica matched me perfectly to this shade!

I love the packaging, it is very chic and durable. It fits perfectly in my bag and I like to bring it with me when I need any further touch ups throughout the day. It comes with a seal tight lid to keep it from drying, a mirror, foundation puff and also a spare refill (the set I received does, however I am unsure if their other individual foundations do).

*VDL Lumilayer Primer —

I'm all for illuminating products, especially within primers. It makes all the difference and I just adore the brightening effect it gives to the skin all while giving your complexion a beautiful healthy glow. This primer is no exception, I love pairing it with the CLIO cushion foundation, and if I am completely honest I much prefer wearing the CLIO foundation with this primer. I find when I wear the CLIO foundation on its own it can become a little drying on my skin, the VDL primer helps adhere the foundation perfectly.

The packaging comes in this beautiful pearlescent glass bottle with a pump dispenser. As you can see in the swatches on my hand it has an iridescent pearl finish to it. It feels hydrating and absorbs well into the skin creating a barrier for any foundation to apply to. I can definitely see this becoming a permanent product within my collection.

Wearing both CLIO cushion foundation and VDL primer — with brow gel, mascara and lipstick.

A few other products I am yet to try are the *REME+G Home Peeling 3-Step Aqua, *Etude House Hair Treatment Mask, *Nature Republic Jelly Cleansing Charcoal Puff (I've tried these before from Missha) and a sample of *Etude House Real Art Moisture Cleansing Oil (which I did use a few times while I was away in Melbourne to cleanse and take off my makeup — it worked really well).

I am looking forward to a nice pamper day to use these products. As I explore more into Asian beauty brands and have enjoyed every product I've tried so far, there are so many more I have my eyes on to discover. I like to switch around my cosmetic and skincare every so often as it is important for your skin to not get too use to a certain product, therefore the occasional changeover will benefit your skin as you continue to rotate all your beauty products. Plus it makes it a lot more exciting to use up your favourite products or discover new ones.

Do you have any Asian beauty products that are your favourite?

Melbourne 2016

Melbourne has always had a soft spot in my heart, from living there back in 2010 to having the occasional holiday there every few years. I had an amazing time with the Mr, it was definitely a much needed getaway trip for the both of us and I am currently wishing we were there again. For those small getaway trips the Mr and I like to travel around Australia. While we are saving for our home, at the same time we want to travel around the world, we have been planning Europe for quite some time now. But, of course one day that will happen, for now we are focused on saving for our new home and then more holidays to come after that.

We stayed at a beautiful apartment in Richmond, where the interior was so aesthetically pleasing. Matte black tap-ware and rectangular tiles — yes please! It was the perfect location for all the things we had planned to do. We visited many eateries we had on our list to go to. A few stand out places — Mr Miyagi, Flower Drum and Market Lane Coffee. We spent some time with my relatives too, who always cook up an amazing feast each time we visit.

This year we only travelled to Melbourne for 4 days (12th - 16th November) as we had work to come back to as well as a ballet to attend the following day we arrived back home. My mother kindly gifted the Mr and I tickets to watch the rehearsal of The Nutcracker at His Majesty's Theatre, on the night of our 12th year anniversary (17th November). It was an advance viewing of their play as the following day was their released date for the show — so that was really exciting.

It was absolutely breath taking, there's always something so mesmerising about ballets. It makes me feel so happy each time I watch one, even though I have only seen two (Beauty & the Beast and The Nucracker) I have seen other theatre shows in the past, but, ballet is definitely my favourite. A perfect way to spend our anniversary as it was also my boyfriend's first time seeing a ballet, which he enjoyed very much. Seeing The Nutcracker made me feel so excited about Christmas, it definitely gives you that Christmas-y feeling. It is always my favourite time of the year.

I decided to post up a beauty haul. It isn't much, I was relatively surprised how little amount of beauty items I had picked up during our trip. I was quite picky with what I was going to purchase because I told myself I would only pick up items I couldn't get a hold of where I am from or were on my wish list. I've been loving these items so much, I'm sure you will see them featured in many future posts.

Most of my shopping went to clothing, accessories and shoes, which I decided not to post about as I find those items aren't photogenic to capture. Most of the other shopping we did was gifts for family and friends.

Onto the beauty haul! I stopped by places like Sephora (of course I was able to catch it in time before missing out every time I travel east), Mecca, Muji, 3INA and M Plaza (a Korean beauty store that Chloé recommended to me). Here's what I picked up for myself! (I picked up lots of other items for family and friends from these places too)

Sephora —
Ouai Dry Shampoo & Textursing Hair Spray
Kat Von D Lock It Concealer in Medium 22 & Liquid Lipstick in Bow N Arrow
2x Caudalie Beauty Elixir 30ml bottles
Becca Mineral Blush in Sweet Pea

Mecca —
Too Faced Beautifully Blushed and Bronzed Collection (deluxe mini sizes)
Chocolate Soleil Bronzer, Love Flushed Blush in Love Hangover & Teddy Bear Flatbuki Brush. It also came with the Sun Bunny Bronzer and Blush in Justify My Love but I gifted it to my cousin.

Muji —
Face Lotion Sheet Masks 20 pack
Folding Mirror

3INA —
The Longwear Liquid Lipstick in #503

M Plaza —
Innisfree Ribbon Hair Band

The Not-So Talked About

From makeup to skincare, everyone always talks about the products they live and breathe, but we never really talk about the everyday essentials we use. It pops up every now and then, however tends to not be the most talked about items. I have been using and loving these items these last few months, a medley of products from technology to a drink bottle.

Tuffsteel Screw Top Insulated Flask/Bottle in Black — For the longest time I have been searching for the perfect water bottle to use daily and also bring along with me where ever I go. I have gone through several different types of bottles from plastic, glass to filtered bottles and not one worked for me. I always try to find one that is BPA free as I can't stand bottle that end up smelling funky.
This bottle is great as it can be used for hot or cold beverages. Containing an insulated thermos style, it keeps water super cold and tea hot for hours. But, I mainly use it for water. The good thing is, I am extremely clumsy and basically drop everything I hold, so this bottle is made from stainless steel and won't go breaking on me, unlike my previous water bottles.

*B.Binchotan Black Charcoal Tooth Brush — I've been using an electric toothbrush for years, so when it came to going back to using a regular toothbrush I was somewhat excited, mainly because this one is infused with charcoal. As a regular tea and coffee drinker, I am always looking for something that will help prevent stains and deodorise with antibacterial properties that charcoal contains.
I like bringing this along with me when I sleep over my sister's house or on a getaway as it is travel friendly, convenient and easy, I don't need to worry about bringing along extra things like a charger or any sort. The bristles are in between soft and medium and I find it cleans my teeth very well, plus I am in love with the all black exterior and anything charcoal.
*Lush Cosmetics Dirty Toothy Tabs — I've been trying out different types of tooth paste/tablets for a while now. I like to find any that isn't from your regular supermarket as they contain nasty chemicals, etc. I've enjoyed so many such as Essential Apothecary's Bright Toothpaste it is really great and I find it cleans and whitens my teeth well, though the taste of it takes a bit of getting use to and it isn't regularly available either.
The Lush Toothy Tabs I have tried in the past, the flavour I tried had Wasabi in it and I found that hard to get use to as well. Luckily, Lush have a variety of flavours to choose from. One I particularly enjoy is the Dirty range. It has a really fresh minty and bubbly feel to it. I've been using this daily and love the packaging, it reminds me of something from the olden days where they use to store tablets within. The tablet size is great for keeping things tidy and easy to travel with. You just chew on it and start brushing away with a wet toothbrush. I gave a bottle of these toothy tabs to my sister and she now swears by it too!
It contains Kaolin powder, Neroli and Spearmint oil as well as safe synthetic ingredients such as baking soda, which is known to help remove stains and whiten your teeth. I have other flavours to try out as well in *Oral Pleasure and *Bling, which I am excited about.

Japanese Brow/Face Razor/Shaver — I've always been one to do my own eyebrows, I've only had them done twice when I tried out eyebrow threading and eyebrow waxing during my beauty course days. I like to tame my own brows as I always worry about it not getting done the way I like them to look.
Using a brow/face razor is really handy, as I use them to clean and tidy up areas around my brows as well as the pesky hairs around the lips aka moustache. I picked up a pack of these razors from a Japanese store here called Miyu.

Surratt Beauty Relevée Eyelash Curler — Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler has been a staple of mine for years, as I am sure with many others out there too. It was until I picked up the Surratt Eyelash Curler I knew I had found a new and favourite. From the sleek matte black to the weightiness of the curler, it is just so stunning. I find the rims of the curler are a lot wider so it gets every single lash from the outer to the inner corners which I found my Shu Uemura curler didn't do.
It is such a luxe lash curler and comes with a felt material drawstring bag to store it in as well as a spare rubber band. You can definitely tell there is quality and performance at first glance and touch.

NARS Pencil Sharpener — I know a sharpener is just a sharpener, but for me this one is my favourite. It's something simple, but it definitely works a lot better than any other I've tried. The casing has a lid which when removed you can empty the shavings so it is mess free. There are two sharpening sizes for large and regular sized pencils and I always get a perfect sharpening each use. Great thing about this is you can put it in your bag and it won't spill and make a mess everywhere, so when you want to use your lip pencils you can bring a sharpener along knowing it won't be a hassle to use.

Seagate Slim Portable Hard Drive 2TB — At this point, I am realising how random this post is becoming, but that's the point right? A portable hard drive?! Yes, I am talking about it. There isn't much to say besides I love it! My friend Tenneil recommended this brand to me, as we both have been using WD (Western Digital) for years and found it really unreliable and bad quality — basically, if you drop it it's GONE! I love how slim and compact Seagate is, it works extremely fast and I use it to store all my important documents, movies, photos, etc on it. I've also decorated it with Glossier stickers, neat huh?
*Irresistible Me Jade Hair Straightening Brush — Hair straighteners have been a hair tool I've used since my early teens. I've been loyal to GHD for years and still adore mine, however I have been curious to try out a straightening brush ever since I've seen it featured everywhere. So when Irresistible Me contacted me asking if they could send me a hair tool to try out, I couldn't pass the opportunity.
I love the idea of this, the concept is smart! A brush that heats up and straightens your hair all while brushing it. With a ceramic tourmaline heating surface, as you slowly brush through your hair it won't damage or overheat your hair follicles as it isn't pressing on it unlike your regular flat iron.
I find it quick and easy to use and lasts all day. My hair doesn't feel fried or dried out, instead it is left soft and smooth. This is great for those mornings where you are always in a rush and don't have time to faff around as it heats up fast and has temperature adjustment. Let me know if you would you like to see my haircare routine!

Brows For Days — Benefit Cosmetics

One of many exciting launches from Benefit Cosmetics is their brow range. Introducing their new and relaunched range for all things brow envy. I’ve been a regular user of their Gimme Brow Gel for quite a few years now and have repurchased it over and over again. It has always been one of my most reached for brow products (though, now that I have tried Glossier’s Boy Brow that is fast becoming my number one favourite, Benefit’s Gimme Brow still remains a favourite).

Aside from base and complexion products, brows are my favourite when it comes to makeup products. I love all things BROWS and of course when I was kindly invited to Benefits Magic Brow’s Tour event a few months ago, I knew this was something I couldn’t miss. The event was held at Benefit's counter in Perth Myer City, where we met with a few Perth bloggers, Benefit’s PR Co-ordinator, Ela and Benefit’s National Brow Artist, Hannah. It was such a lovely day learning all about the new launches as well as having Hannah demonstrate her pro tips and tricks of the trade.
The Benefit Brow products I received:
High Brow Glow
Precisely, My BrowPencil – shade 5
Goof Proof Brow Pencil – shade 5
Brow Zings – shade 5
Gimme Brow – shade 5
Ka-Brow – shade 5
Within these few months I have been testing out all of the brow products and I am most definitely a fan. My favourites are of course, Gimme Brow (in a new shade 5  I was using their old shade range which was called Medium/Deep), Goof Proof Brow Pencil and Ka-Brow. I find the shade colouring within Benefit’s brow collection amazing, there is definitely a shade to match everyone. It ranges from cool to warm tones and light to dark. For myself I am shade 5, though I can also use shade 6 too.
Goof Proof Brow Pencil and Ka-Brow are exactly what I am looking for in both brow pencil and brow pomade form. I’ve tried so many and although I have many favourites such as Hourglass Arch Brow Pencil, Anastasia Brow Wiz (which is very similar to Benefit's Precisely, My Brow Pencil), etc. I must say that I much prefer the formula of Benefit’s Goof Proof and Ka-Brow, it is both long-wearing, smudge-proof and natural looking. The shape of the Goof Proof is a diamond tear drop which makes application to the brows a lot easier. The texture isn’t too soft or too hard and applies the right amount as you draw on each stroke, building up the intensity.

Ka-Brow has a unique formula; I find it to be not too pigmented, though still a rich colour, which is great. I own the Anastasia Brow Pomade and really didn’t like it. It is hard to work with and you can easily go over board with it, not to mention the formula dries up really fast. Ka-Brow has a creamy formula that creates a subtle texture to the brows, allowing to build up pigmentation to your desire. It is everything a brow pomade should be, for a while I was quite put off by brow pomades until I tried Benefit’s Ka-Brow.
The texture to Gimme Brow is something else, it contains fibres that adhere perfectly onto your brow hairs as well as tinting and taming the skin/hairs. As you can see I still own the older packaging (on the left). The new packaging of silver and a sleek exterior makes for such a fun look. I also adore the pink font! Though, the packaging isn’t to everyone’s taste, I really enjoy the relaunch and it makes it so easy to find your Benefit products within your collection with this type of packaging – it stands out. I get somewhat of a futuristic 80’s vibe from this packaging, something you would see from Back to the Future. LOVE!!!
The only product I don’t find myself reaching for is the High Brow Glow, mainly because it isn’t a product I use all too often in general. If I was to highlight my brow bone, I usually use a shadow or a highlight for this. Though this can make for a great eyeshadow base, or inner corner highlight to your eyes.

Have you tried any of Benefit’s brow collection? What are your favourites?

P.S. Do you like my new header/sub-headings? My beautiful friend Alexis has been working on a few mock-ups for my blog and we finally have a winner, I am in love! Thank you so much Alexis. Isn't she amazing?!
