2015 Beauty Favourites

2015 has been a year of many favourites, I could of course show you every single item I've loved this year but let's just keep it to the minimum. I have fallen in love with products I once didn't enjoy on first trial to soon after several uses started to love (which tends to happen a lot)!. I like that some times when your first opinions towards something may be negative and after giving it a second chance your thoughts completely change. It could be that the product needed some time to wear in to get it working or it could depend on the situation at the time. Was your skin too dry or too oily? Has your taste changed? Etc, etc! This can go for anything, even fashion wise! I always find my taste changes and I like to give many things the benefit of the doubt because everything deserves second chances, right?

Moving on, I did find it extremely hard to narrow down to just 20 products that really stood out to me this year. Some are from beginning and mid year, and some are actually fairly new however was a stand out that I had to add to my yearly favourites! I don't think I've done a yearly favourites post before, given my blog is still quite new and I have only posted since 2014. For my 2015 favourites I decided to only do it based on beauty products, nothing else or it will be too long. Perhaps if you would like to see my 2015 random favourites, do let me know and I can put something together. Favourite books, movies, clothing, general, etc. But do be warned, today's post is going to be a mammoth read.

I think you can tell majority of my 2015 favourites consist of this one brand and it deserves a section of its own in this post. When I first started working at Tom Ford I already had a passion for the beautiful brand and the man himself. Although I had learnt so much more behind the brand itself and Mr Ford whilst working there. I find Tom Ford to be the most intriguing of all designers, he is exceptional and a pure masterpiece. There is definitely nothing quite like Tom Ford. The beauty and fragrance range is of course something I have found a home within. Since exploring many products at work from studying about the fragrances to the makeup to the entire history of Tom Ford during training days, I honestly don't think there is anything more luxurious. That of course being unbiased, not because I worked there for a short time, but because it is my honest truth.

If you look further into the history behind Mr Ford you will be taken by surprise at his cutting edge stories and success makes all for everything that comes of what he creates. I can't believe the endless list of achievements he has done, creating his first film he wrote and directed (and winning so many awards), which was based about his life to being the face/designer behind many global brands such as Gucci and YSL. There's no doubt he is an immaculate figure to the industry. Having said all this, you can tell that I have so much love for the beauty of Tom Ford and 2015 was the year I finally explored more of it and invested in a lot of the luxury items. Being the most expensive in the beauty industry, it is definitely an investment for a lot of us. But, it is a given as to why there is a hefty price tag — to have a piece (or more) of Tom Ford really is something special. It all goes to thanking the person behind the scenes of helping Mr Ford create his beauty range, the famous Charlotte Tilbury! The two together, wow! It was soon after that Miss Tilbury, herself began her own beauty range. No wonder there's a beautiful resemblance!

I really miss working at Tom Ford, but I can honestly say that it was an experience I'll never forget. Although at the time the brand itself (in Perth) didn't have what I needed (stocking of the makeup range which didn't pull through as initially thought), I am happy I got to work with whatever time I had there. Nonetheless some stand outs from Tom Ford beauty this year are:

Tom Ford Small Bronzing Powder in #02 Terra - From the beautiful white and gold packaging to the product itself. This bronzer comes in two shades and I picked the more ash brown tone and non-shimmer version. Bronzing and contouring with this is a dream, I love how natural it looks and the way it sculpts the face.

Tom Ford Lip Colour in #41 Warm Sable - There's no doubt that Tom Ford lipsticks are one of my favourites. I decided to invest in another shade and this time something on the 'burnt' side. As you know I love my brown tones but this shade has a hint of a somewhat 'burnt' orange brown hue to it.

Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen in #01 Deeper - I've mentioned on my Instagram post that this is by far the best liquid eyeliner EVER. It is everything I've always wanted in a liquid eyeliner, intense black and precision on the brush tips. Containing dual ends one being a standard brush tip and the other being a smaller nib which makes for creating the sharpest wings, what more could you ask for? As figured, it is extremely expensive but it is definitely worth it. Think of it as two in one, perhaps?

Tom Ford Private Blend Eau De Parfum in Café Rose (deluxe vial size) - With all of Tom Ford perfumes they are highly concentrated and strong. Many find it too overwhelming when they sniff it from the bottle but the key to these perfumes is to apply it to the skin and let it settle in before making any judgements. It works with the PH balances within your skin and creates the most unique scents. The private blend range contains so many essential and fine ingredients within them so they are one of a kind and that goes with the reason for its price tag (again). Most Tom Ford fragrances the base consist of Amber and Orchids, which to me is a perfect to combination with pairing any other scents. After working with many of the fragrances one of my most favourite I fell in love with is Café Rose. It is exactly as you would presume, pure coffee beans with delicate roses. I honestly find so many of the pairings of Tom Ford perfumes so unique. Who would think to pair these scents together? Needless to say, they are amazing. Café Rose is everything, when it's on my skin I fall more and more in love with the scent. One of these day's I will save my pennies and get the full size.

*Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme Hydrating Emulsion - On one of my training days at work we were introduced to the upcoming release of many new fragrance scents for December 2015. Upon this was the Noir Pour Femme range, it is targeted for women it comes with inspiration from the original Noir and Noir Extreme range (although targeted for men, Tom Ford fragrances are unisex and many women use this and other scents too). I think this and Fleur De Portofino (a Mediterranean fresh scent) was my favourite releases, Noir Pour Femme is an extremely sexy, smoky spice and oriental scent. It is gorgeous and I would love to invest in a bottle one day however this body lotion is doing me just fine. The scent of course is so strong that when the lotion is applied to the skin you don't need to wear anything else.

Tom Ford Nail Lacquer in #02 Toasted Sugar - This is such a unique shade, it really is like the name says "toasted sugar". I love unique shades like this, if I do say so it's a mixture of soft beige entwined with light taupe hues. It applies smoothly and opaque, and is very long wearing.

For base I've been really loving the Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide in Macadamia, I did a review on it recently. When I first got my hands on this foundation it was about semi-mid year and this was basically my first time properly trying out Laura Mercier. Like I've said several times, I have no idea what took me so long! It is such a beautiful brand. I won't go into too much as to why I love this foundation, but I will tell you why it is a favourite. I've been reaching this for most days, especially days where I want to look flawless without the extra work. It smooths out everything — literally! I adore the way it makes my base look and find it sits and wears perfectly throughout the day. You could even say it is my most favourite foundation I've ever tried. I like to buff/blend it into my skin most times with *MAC Small Duo Fibre Face Brush in #188, the duo fibre brush makes blend it in lightly without any build up and is also great for an all purpose brush for blush, bronzer, highlight, etc.

For covering any dark spots and blemishes the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer in Light Warm has been my go to. It has amazing pigmentation and coverage without looking caked nor heavy. I really like the applicator, it has a long flat scoop on each side of the doe foot which glides on effortlessly onto your face. At times when I don't feel like wearing a base I like to wear this concealer on its own. The only down side to these concealers are the shade/colour range, it doesn't really match up to what the shades are (example, light is very light and medium is very dark, there's no in between) therefore it is also good to keep note that I find they do oxidise darker.

Having dry skin in certain areas of my face I don't always like to powder, mainly just the T-zone or under eyes. However, I find I can get so caked and dried skin around my under eyes if I am not careful with what I powder with. The Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder is so finely milled that if you blow it into the air it is undetectable (that's how fine it is). It brightens and applies so softly on my under eyes, I've never come across anything of its kind. A lot of powders these days are finely milled but to a certain extent, however this powder is a whole 'nother level.

Now, the honourable mention of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette, which has been my most favourite of the lot. I was quite sceptical if I should purchase this but I regret nothing, especially since I have been using it continuously since purchasing it during my Melbourne trip. As I have mentioned before, this palette covers all aspects needed to complete your makeup! Powders, highlights, bronzer and blushes! It speaks for itself and I am really glad I own this.

As for another blush that I have been reaching for a lot is NARS Blush in Madly. My lovely friend Tenneil kept telling me year after year about how gorgeous this blush is and I've been meaning to pick it up for the longest time as I value her recommendations! It applies so beautifully on your cheeks, looks subtle and natural, and complements my skin tone perfectly. It makes me look so healthy and completes any makeup look I do.

MAC Strobe Cream in Sized To Go was something I was trialling for the longest time, I kept getting samples of it and was waiting until I was able to visit a Pro Store to pick up the sized to go mini. I find the 30ml size (RRP $15) to be perfect and surprisingly much better value compared to investing in the full 50ml size for $55. It isn't a crazy glow when you apply it but a subtle sheer sheen to your face especially applied with your foundation. Makes you look dewy and hydrated.

I think for me the stand out eyeshadow palette this year has definitely been the Zoeva Cocoa Blend Eyeshadow Palette. If there was a 'perfect' palette I would consider this to be the one, it has every shade you would need to create a subtle to intense eye look. There isn't any shade in there I wouldn't use! The pigments swatch and apply so smoothly and buttery. Not to mention how affordable it is, especially for the quality.

This won't come as a surprise favourite lipstick for 2015, Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Spiced Rose. When I first purchased this lipstick I knew it was love at first application, at the time I had not heard anyone or many people talk about these lipsticks! But soon after a few months it started becoming quite popular which is always a lovely thing as it deserve a lot more attention. Spice Rose was my first lipstick from Laura Mericer, what started as one became four - I now own four lipsticks that I can't get enough of. I've been raving about these and there's no surprise they're a favourite,  I'll leave it for you to read my reviews on them here.

The perfumes that have been making me smell nice in 2015 was Diptyque Philosykos and L'Ombre Dans L'Eau EDT. I can't express how much I adore these scents, I could honestly smell them all day. I want to get myself smaller sizes (handbag friendly) to carry everywhere with me. Envision bag full of fresh figs combined with earthy scents and the Diptyque candle Baies as a perfume — so much perfection!

Another nail polish favourite is Dior Vernis Nail Lacquer in #294 Lady, how beautiful is this? It was sadly limited edition, and because I adored it so much I had to buy two bottles to stock up on. The perfect manicure shade that never fails to make my nails look pretty.

You can tell Tenneil and I influence one another a lot with our beauty recommendations! Of course after trying out a sample she had made for me of the Bumble & Bumble Sunday Shampoo I instantly fell in love with it. I don't think I've come across a shampoo that has cleaned my hair so well from product build up and gave it impressive amounts of volume and softness. I wouldn't think a shampoo would be within my favourites but this one really is a hit for me.

Last but not least, Origins A Perfect World Antioxidant Moisturiser with White Tea. I tend to get these dry patches around my cheeks that really irritate and I've tried a lot of hydrating moisturisers that haven't really worked as well as this. This moisturiser has a thick consistency and is filled with so many lovely ingredients, it leaves your skin feeling like you've just applied a layer of silk and bucketfuls of water. When I apply this before bed my face feels super soft and smooth the following morning. It smells amazing too!

What were your 2015 beauty favourites? I'd love to know. Thank you to everyone who has supported my blog, wishing you all a happy new year, 2016! I have great plans for this brand new year!
